What is CDCS?

The Center for the Development of Civil Society is a non-profit, non-governmental, non-political organization, created to promote ideas about democracy and civil society women's rights and pluralism/diversity (cultural, linguistic, religious and political) . The CDCS includes the following subdivisions:
· The Women Scholar's Council
· The Youth Council
· The Elderly Women's League

Why is civil society important?

The work of civil society is often carried out with little awareness or recognition from the public of governments. Throughout the world, civil society plays a vital role in building democracy, promoting pluralism, improving justice, fighting poverty, and correcting and complementing the state and the economic marketplace.

How does the CDCS strengthen civil society?

The CDCS and its members together work to:
· convene regional and global meetings to discuss critical issues and develop mutual understanding and principles
· advocate for the infrastructural development of nonprofit and non-governmental organizations worldwide
· serve as a clearinghouse of information, bringing people and information together to promote the growth of non-governmental organizations and civil society worldwide

How are the activities of the CDCS carried out?

The plenum of organization (general meeting of members) is the supreme body of the organization. It elects a President, a Board, and a Control Commission. The plenum of the organization (usually once a year) decides the strategy of the organization. The President carries the overall responsibility for the realization of strategic goals. The Board evaluates and monitors the activities of organization. The CDCS The Plenum is located in Yerevan. The CDCS is strictly nonpartisan and does not align itself with any political parties or movements. Funding is provided by grants from private foundations, donations from individuals, membership dues, and sales of publications.

What can I do?

Become a member of the CDCS. CDCS members represent a vast network of experience, knowledge, and expertise. Each member brings a unique perspective that shapes the collective voice of the CDCS.

Benefits of membership include access to the growing network of members, free copies of our publications, an annual newsletter, and invitations to attend regional and global meetings on civil society at reduced rates.

Contribute to the Civil Society Development Fund. This fund subsidizes the participation of those of those who otherwise could not afford to join. Contact the CDCS for more information.

Submit news items about civil society to the CDCS. Many nonprofit executives and practitioners, journalists, and others contact the CDCS for more information about civil society.
